“If sex was a crime,
there wouldn’t be Songs of Solomon.”
I’m not really her follower but that statement she made
stormed my mind with thoughts. Of course, she as well as her sitting colleague
did emphasize on the point of doing it with the one you love. Sex is an
agreement and so must it be done on mutual grounds and I don’t disrespect that
thought at all.
Come to think of it! barely would you walk into a church,
sit amongst a congregation and hear a pastor ever preach from the book of Songs
of Solomon. Maybe it might have just been my curiosity that pushed me to write
this piece but here’s my question…
“Couldn’t we have
solved a lot of the rampant sexual activities happening prematurely out of
wedlock, if our elders delved a bit deeper into sex education and maybe preach
the intended reason or purpose of the book of Songs of Solomon?”
Having pondered over this, I took the time and liberty to
read through the chapters in the book (Songs of Solomon) and realized there were
a lot of erotic TOs and FROs (punchlines/vibes) in there we could use for our
love letters…. frankly speaking; but where was Afia Schwarzenegger driving to
with what she said?
Upon further listening and deeper reading, I came to a
realization that indeed sex wasn’t a crime but what she, Afia, seem to have hit
lightly on is the fact that the chapters and verses of love poems in the book
of Songs of Solomon was intended for the sexual
relationship between a married man
and woman and not just anyone who’s tripped over their feelings and claim
they’re in love. Although, there was a light of truth that diverted my thought
in an alternate dimension and this time, our elderly came in question.
Seeing how most of us struggle to hold hands with
discipline, I noticed that our pastors and other elders we look up to have
somehow failed along the way of educating us on sex. All they tell us is “do
not do it…it’s not good” and so on but couldn’t they have done more to educate
us on how to control it?... how were
they able to hold their bodies at their sexually active ages? I feel it’s
because they underestimate us by thinking we’re “too young to understand”, but
they could have quenched our curiosity to explore if they had touched a bit
more on sex.
Condoms only play the safe part but it would be
spirit-calming to know that there is more to it than meets the eye else, we
would be forced to believe that experience really is a good teacher. So now,
over to our dear elderly and Seniors. Not everyone can build self-control if he
or she does not know how to. therefore, I believe it would mean a lot if that
part of our training is lightened up.
